How does it work?

Irrespective of what level you start at with Acsenda you will be awarded the CAD10,000 over the duration of your studies and is automatically applied to your course fees.

And a student who joined us in 3rd year (ie. already has two years of credit exemptions) would be awarded CAD5000 per year.

It’s that simple.

Of course there are other great reasons for joining an Acsenda course in 2020:
  • Acsenda's fast track courses can see a student finish their degree in just 2.5 years
  • Students have the ability to work 20 hours per week during school terms and 40 hours per week during vacation periods

As International Student currently studying in Canada, Can I Apply for Work Permit Before I Complete My Program?

$
0
0
First, if you are applying for Student Visa without the intention of completing your program because your plan is find a work once you landed, our advise is not to proceed with your application. Please don't do it.

Recently, we received inquiries from our readers about this subject. According to them, they talked to somebody in Canada and that they were told that they can actually continue to attend school and work part-time while waiting for the work permit. Another one even said that he talked to two consultants in Canada and said it is ok to do that.

Is it true?

We'll let the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) do the talking here:
"If you were a student, but you’ve applied for a work permit instead, you can’t keep studying while you wait for a decision on your application. You also can’t work until we’ve approved your application. You can stay in Canada as a temporary resident until you get a decision on your application." - Source: IRCC

Now, you might be thinking that the solution is to apply for Visitor Record and then apply for a Work Permit. That is indeed the process. However, not everyone may apply for a Work Permit from Within Canada.

Again, here's what Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)  is saying about the subject:

"Can I apply for a work permit from inside Canada?
Only in some cases. You can only apply for a work permit from inside Canada if:

  • you, your spouse or parents have a valid study or work permit,
  • you have a work permit for one job but want to apply for a work permit for a different job,
  • you have a temporary resident permit that is valid for six months or more, or
  • you are in Canada because you have already applied for permanent residence from inside Canada. You will have to pass certain stages in the main application process before you can be eligible for a work permit." Source: IRCC
There simply is no short cut.

Sure, there could be a way to circumvent this rule. But then again, we are just telling you what is provided by the immigration rules. We at Canadian Immigration Consultancy plays by the rules and will not encourage applicants to game the system.

EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary

What happened during the EDSA Revolution?

During those momentous four days of February 1986, millions of Filipinos, along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila, and in cities all over the country, showed exemplary courage and stood against, and peacefully overthrew, the dictatorial regime of President Ferdinand E. Marcos. More than a defiant show of unity—markedly, against a totalitarian rule that had time and again proven that it would readily use brute force against any and all dissenters—People Power was a reclaiming of liberties long denied. The millions that gathered for the 1986 People Power Revolution—the culmination of a series of public protests, often dispersed if at all given leave—was a nation wresting itself, as one, back from a dictator.

The four-day demonstration along EDSA was a manifestation of the discontent and furies that began with the parliament of the streets during Marcos’ totalitarian rule, as Filipinos began, determinedly, to shake off the subjugation. But, the players of this revolution, at the start, knew only to gather; only in EDSA, at the height of the marches and within the multitude of citizens, did standing as one begin to coalesce as a campaign. From its beginnings as an immediate response to the rigged results of the snap elections, and then as a vigil to guard defecting top military men from Marcos’ vengeful machinations, a show of support heartily encouraged by the Catholic Church; to streets gradually teeming with people to quietly face off with armored tanks, a confrontation of linked arms and prayers and flowers and songs—the four days of EDSA People Power in itself was an exemplar of the evolution of the Philippine protest. After receiving visa refusals four times, will you consider submitting a new application again? Most will give up already, but not Hazel Corsame.

After 4 Visa Refusals, Most Will Give Up Already. But not Hazel Corsame!

Hazel Corsame initially applied through another agency. Unfortunately, her application for Student Visa was refused. But fortunately, she learned about Canadian Immigration Consultancy Alabang (Gateway to Canada) through one of our clients who is now attending school at Fanshawe College.

We analyzed her case and gave her some pointers. Then we advised her to consider the following options:

  • Go back to her agency and re-apply but consider the pointers we gave her
  • Do the application on her own by following the instructions at www.canada.ca
  • Hire our services and we help her increase her chances (not to guarantee approval)
She decided to hire our services and she got her visa in less than two weeks after submitting the application.

So for those with refused visa application, remember this:

Should Canada Impose Travel Restrictions as a Measure Against Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)? How will this affect the Incoming International Students, Temporary Foreign Workers and Visitors?

$

0
As of February 7, 2020, a total of 72 States Parties were identified to be implementing travel restrictions through official reports, official statements and the media. And as of March 10, 2020, there are 79 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada.

Given the situation, should Canada Impose Travel Restrictions as a Measure Against Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)? How will this affect the Incoming International Students, Temporary Foreign Workers and Visitors?

Should Canada Impose Travel Restrictions as a Measure Against Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)?

Here's an interesting piece from the Lancet Medical Journal: Do not violate the International Health Regulations during the COVID-19 outbreak.
"In imposing travel restrictions against China during the current outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), many countries are violating the IHR. We—16 global health law scholars—came to this conclusion after applying the interpretive framework of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and reaching a jurisprudential consensus on the legal meaning of IHR Article 43."
According to International Health Regulations, countries can only restrict trade or travel during outbreaks if the following conditions are met:
  • Must be supported by science
  • shall not be more restrictive of international traffic and not more invasive or intrusive to persons than reasonably available alternatives
  • Must be with full respect for the dignity, human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons
The rationale is to protect people and economies from undue harm, as well as to ensure that the next country to find disease within its territories is not discouraged from reporting the outbreak to international authorities.

But should Canada imposed travel restrictions, how will this affect the Incoming International Students, Temporary Foreign Workers and Visitors?
  • For visitors, you will just have to reschedule your travel and rebook your flight
  • For Temporary Foreign Workers, you will have to coordinate with your Employer and hope that by the time the restriction is lifted, the employer still needs you
  • For International Students, you will have to apply for deferral and wait until the restriction is lifted
But is there a chance that Canada impose travel restrictions?

So far, Canada’s response to COVID-19 outbreak has been measured, science-based and fully in compliance with International Health Regulations. We can only hope that it stay the course.

0
According to Fanshawe College – COVID-19 Update dated March 13, 2020, the May 2020 intake at Fanshawe College will proceed as scheduled.

Here are some guidelines you might consider in booking flights or in the event that you opted to defer your intake schedule:

Flights to Canada
Canada has not declared any ban on flights from any country given the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Philippine government has imposed a travel ban to and from Metro Manila, specifically NAIA until March 15 to April 14, 2020. Some international airports are still operational but several flights still has transfers in Manila before they can depart to other countries. Given this, you may consider the following:

  • Rebook flights to a later date due to the travel ban in Metro Manila
  • Book a direct flight instead of flights with layovers in other countries such as Hong Kong or Korea
For booking assistance, you may visit www.cictravel.com

Quarantine upon arrival in Canada
Despite the increase of confirmed cases and death in the Philippines, Canada has not imposed a mandatory quarantine for all passengers traveling to Canada. However, it might be a good practice for you to monitor your temperature and condition before, during and upon arrival in Canada for precautionary measures.

Deferral to later intake
In case you are a bit wary with the current situation, you are allowed to defer to a later intake. However, please note that seats are subject to availability for that specific intake and program. Should you want to defer your intake, please send email to admission@gatewaytocanada.com

As a measure against the spread of COVID-19, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced that foreign nationals from all countries - except the United States - will no longer be allowed to enter Canada temporarily.

Canadian Embassy Manila is closed as of March 17, 2020 in response to Enhanced Community Quarantine implemented by the Canadian Government.

Canadian Immigration Consultancy - Alabang (Gateway to Canada) will be closed as well while the Enhanced Community Quarantine is in effect. But we will continue to operate online from home. Our Team are advised to stay home in compliance with the government order.

Some reminders to Student Visa applicants

  • If you are applying for Student Visa and have a Letter of Acceptance for the May 2020 Intake and wish to defer to a later intake, please send email to admission@gatewaytocanada.com. If you applied directly to the school, contact the school's admission office. Things may change one month from now, so you may want to consider delaying the application for deferral and if the condition favors you, join the May 2020 intake as scheduled. However, please be advised that there is no guarantee that there would be slots available for your program.
  • If you were issued visa and you applied for deferral because you can not join the May 2020 intake, there is no need to apply for another visa or inform the Visa Office. You may use your visa to enter Canada. At the port of entry, simply present your new LOA. If the Study Permit validity to be issued to you is shorter because it was based on your pervious LOA and Visa Validity, you just have to apply for Study Permit extension.

This situation is temporary. This too shall pass.

Be ready to enter when the door opens
If you are planning to immigrate to Canada to feel the benefits of having a government that truly take care of its constituents. If you want to immigrate to Canada to give your family a quality life, you should take this opportunity to prepare your documents, study your options and be ready to enter when the door opens

Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan: Support for Canadians and Businesses

Direct Support to Canadian Workers
Included in the plan is the provision of income support for those who need it most. This includes:

  • increase the maximum annual Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment amounts, only for the 2019-20 benefit year, by $300 per child.
  • Waiving the one-week waiting period for those individuals in imposed quarantine that claim Employment Insurance (EI) sickness benefits. This temporary measure will be in effect as of March 15, 2020.
  • Waiving the requirement to provide a medical certificate to access EI sickness benefits.
  • Introducing the Emergency Care Benefit providing up to $900 bi-weekly, for up to 15 weeks.
In addition, Canadian Government will provide greater flexibility to Canadians who may be experiencing hardships during the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canada Revenue Agency will defer the filing due date for the 2019 tax returns of individuals.

For those with house mortgage, the Government, through CMHC, is providing increased flexibility for homeowners facing financial difficulties to defer mortgage payments on homeowner CMHC-insured mortgage loans. CMHC will permit lenders to allow payment deferral beginning immediately.

Support For Businesses

This pandemic COVID-19 exposes how vulnerable most Filipino families are. Many are afraid and worried. Some are hopeless and asking questions like "What will happen to my family?"; "Who is going to help us?"; "How long can we survive?".

Know that this is just a temporary setback. There is hope. Bright future is awaiting for you only if you are prepared.

With the pandemic COVID-19, suddenly many Filipino families realized that they actually don't have the safety nets. Many are worrying about the following:
  • Loss of income due to the lockdown
  • Possible loss of job
  • Cannot pay medical bills if somebody gets sick
  • Cannot make our monthly car payments, home payments, insurance payments in the near future if the shut down last too long
Will the P5,000 - P8,000 support from the Philippine government address all these problems? Of course not! Now the question is this: What you going to do about it? What is your alternative plan for your future?

We've always been saying that immigrating to Canada is about Quality Life. It's about safety nets. If you were a permanent resident in Canada, you will benefit from Canada's Economic Response Plan.  And just recently, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that the government will give Emergency Response Benefit amounting to $2,000 per month for the next four months!

We are not saying that the only way to have the safety nets is by immigrating to Canada. But if you don't feel that immigrating to Canada is not a viable plan for you, what is your alternative plan?

After this pandemic is over, can you really afford another financial setbacks?

The pandemic COVID-19 is affecting us right now. What are you thinking? How are you feeling right now?

If you are planning to immigrate to Canada to feel the benefits of having a government that truly take care of its constituents; If you want to immigrate to Canada to give your family a quality life, you should take this opportunity to prepare your documents, study your options and be ready to enter when the door opens.
